Who am I?
My name is Michael Forrest. I am a freelance translator of German and French documents into English. I am based in Spain and as such subject to the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation which came into force on 25 May 2018. You can contact me via the details provided on my website.
Why do I process your personal data?
I collect, store, and use your personal data for the following purposes:
to issue cost estimates,
to provide a translation or editing service as requested by you,
or to comply with legal requirements.
Personal data collected may include your name, postal address, email address, telephone number and VAT number. Personal data may also include banking details or information on documents sent for the express purpose of translation or editing. All data is processed on password-protected computers and is not accessible by third parties.
I do not use your personal data for marketing purposes, nor do I disclose it to unauthorised third parties.
Legal grounds
The legal basis for processing your data is to perform the translation or editing services you request or to take necessary steps prior to fulfilling that request (“performance of a contract”).
Who else may have access to your personal data?
For administrative purposes, other parties, including the providers of my website and email hosting services, may have access to your personal data. All these parties are also compliant with the EU General Data Protection Regulation, or in the case of US companies, are self-certified under the US Privacy Shield framework.
How long do I keep your personal data?
I will keep your personal data for 10 years unless you ask me to delete or remove it sooner. Should you ask me to delete translations before the 10-year period has expired, I cannot be held responsible for queries or claims relating to the content, as I have no way of verifying the accuracy of the original content.
Do you have the right to access your data?
You may contact me at any time to request a copy of your personal data, or to ask me to rectify or remove the information I hold. I will take action without undue delay and in any event within one month of receipt of the request.
Your right to lodge a complaint
If you have any concerns about how I process your personal data, please contact me. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority in Spain.

Date protection statement for the use of Google Analytics
This website uses Google Analytics, a web analysis service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin, 4, Ireland. Google Analytics uses so called “cookies”, text files that are stored on your computer and facilitate analysis of your use of the website. Information generated by the cookie about your use of this website is usually transmitted to a Google server in the United States and stored there.
In case of activated IP anonymization on this website, however, your IP address is previously truncated by Google within Member States of the European Union or in other states which are party to the agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases is a full IP address transmitted to a Google server in the USA and truncated there. On behalf this website’s owner, Google will use this information to evaluate your use of the website, compile reports about website activities, and provide the website’s operator with further services related to website and Internet usage. The IP address sent from your browser as part of Google Analytics is not merged with other data by Google.
You can prevent storage of cookies by appropriately setting your browser software; in this case, however, please note that you might not be able to fully use all functions offered by this website. In addition, you can prevent data generated by the cookie and relating to your use of the website (including your IP address) from being collected and processed by Google, by downloading and installing a browser plug-in from the following link: http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en.
Online presence in social media
I maintain online presences within social networks and platforms in order to communicate with active customers, interested parties, and users and to inform them about my services.
I would like to point out that your user data may be processed outside the European Union when you visit my profiles on those social media platforms. This may pose risks for users because, for example, the enforcement of users’ rights could be more difficult. With regard to US providers certified under the Privacy Shield, I would like to point out that they commit to comply with EU data protection standards.
Furthermore, user data is usually processed for market research and advertising purposes. This means that these companies can create profiles based on your browsing behaviour and your assumed interests. In turn, these profiles can be used, for example, to place advertisements inside and outside the platforms that presumably correspond to your interests. For these purposes, cookies are usually stored on your computer, in which your browsing behaviour and interests are stored. Data can also be stored independently of the devices used by you (especially if you are a member of the respective platforms and are logged in there).
The processing of your personal data is based on my legitimate interests in effective user information and communication with users in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f. GDPR. If you are asked by the respective providers for your consent to data processing (i.e. to consent by ticking a checkbox or confirming by clicking a button), the legal basis of the processing is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a., Art. 7 GDPR.
For detailed information regarding the respective processing and the possibility of opting out, I suggest you visit the following links and read the information published by the respective providers.
Also, if you plan to request any information or wish to carry out your user rights, I’d like to point out that these can be asserted most effectively with the providers. Only the providers have access to your data and can directly take appropriate measures and provide the information you need. If you still need help, you may contact me.
